Design prompt:
Designing a blind accessible
stand mixer
Design needs:
Easily operated
Tactile
Safe to operate
Ideation
What features could make a mixer blind accessible?
The team split off and
began sketching out
possible innovations to
makea mixer accessible.
Group Ideas:
Safety guard for the bowl
Dial on the back of the mixer
for safety
Possible button layout/ order of operations
• Guide Track to guide the hand
to each touch point
• Buttons and switches away from
spinning element / pinch points
• Raised or notched guides
My Sketches:
Coming together
Pulled key ideas into a
group quick-sketch
My key design contribution:
Guide Track
• The guide track guides the users hand safely to the key touch points
Safety Lid refinement
• Sloping lid allows liquids to be funneled into the bowl with out removing it
Streamline inspired
• Visually appealing way to discreetly incorporate the guide tracks.
Physical mock-up
Rough mock-up
We made the physical mock-up
to gauge the size and ergonomics
of our mixer.
More handle room
needed to grasp
The body sits
slightly too tall
Bigger base to
support the body
Mock-up applications
Handle adjusted for
broader hand sizes
Groves set to easily
place a finger into
Body was lowered
closer to the bowl
Thicker base to better
support the bowl
